Suspectul, care a fost urmărit de poliţie după ce şi-ar fi împuşcat bunica şi o altă femeie într-o altă parte a oraşului, şi-a abandonat maşina în apropierea unui magazin şi după un schimb de focuri cu poliţia a intrat în magazin unde a luat mai mulţi ostatici.
În cursul incidentului, bărbatul, în vârstă de 28 de ani, a vorbit la telefon cu autorităţile pentru a-şi negocia predarea.

“În incinta (magazinului) Trader Joe’s, suspectul a împuşcat o victimă de sex feminin”, a anunţat poliţia, precizând că victima a decedat la faţa locului în urma rănilor suferite.
După trei ore de asediu, bărbatul a ieşit din magazin şi s-a predat autorităţilor.
