Cel puţin cinci persoane au decedat, între care doi copii, după prăbuşirea unei clădiri cu mai multe etaje vineri în oraşul Batumi, pe coasta Mării Negre a Georgiei, a anunţat sâmbătă Ministerul de Interne georgian.

Mai multe persoane s-ar putea să fie prinse în continuare sub dărâmături, a declarat ministrul de interne georgian Vakhtang Gomelauri, care s-a deplasat la faţa locului.

Echipele de salvare au reuşit să scoată de sub ruine două persoane, între care mama celor doi copii care şi-au pierdut viaţa, scrie Agerpres, potrivit Digi24.

Imaginile difuzate de la faţa locului arată clădirea transformată într-un morman uriaş de moloz şi echipe de salvare care caută supravieţuitori, mai întâi cu mâinile goale, iar apoi cu echipamente specializate. Sute de persoane s-au alăturat căutărilor, întrucât se puteau auzi încă strigăte la ajutor de sub grămada de dărâmături.

Echipele de salvare au reuşit vineri să contacteze cu ajutorul telefoanelor mobile doi supravieţuitori prinşi sub ruine, a indicat Vakhtang Gomelauri.

Ministrul din interne nu a exclus posibilitatea ca unul dintre zidurile de rezistenţă ale clădirii să se fi prăbuşit în timpul lucrărilor de renovare. Doi muncitori din construcţii au fost arestaţi sub suspiciunea de încălcare a normelor de securitate.

Clădirea cu cinci etaje datează din 1981, fiindu-i ulterior adăugate două etaje suplimentare şi un lift.
