FOTO: Ultimele trupe britanice au părăsit Afganistanul; Finalul operațiunii prin care UK a evacuat 15.000 persoane

Ultimii militari, diplomați și oficiali britanici au părăsit Kabulul, a anunțat ministerul de Externe de la Londra. Plecarea ultimului avion militare pune capăt implicării militare a Regatului Unit în Afganistan, după 20 de ani.

Peste 15.000 de persoane au fost evacuate din Afganistan de către Marea Britanie începând cu 14 august.

Premierul britanic, Boris Johnson, a spus că momentul este o șansă de a reflecta la realizările din ultimele săptămâni - și din ultimele două decenii, cum ar fi educația fetelor și slăbirea puterii organizațiiei teroriste Al-Qaeda.

Într-o scrisoare adresată forțelor armate, Johnson a recunoscut că suprinzătoarea cădere a Kabulului în mâinile talibanilor a fost greu de urmărit. El a adăugat că va fi „un moment deosebit de dificil pentru prietenii și apropiațiii celor 457 de miltari care au murit” în timpul misiunii britanice, potrivit Digi24.

Ministerul britanic de Externe a precizat că printre persoanele evacuate sunt și aproximativ 2.200 de copii, cel mai mic dintre ei având doar o zi.

Aproximativ 5.000 de cetățeni britanici și familiile lor au fost evacuați cu avionul, alături de peste 8.000 afgani care au lucrat pentru Marea Britanie și familiile lor și cei considerați în pericol în fața talibanilor.
